Southwest Youth for Knowledge
Helping Students Succeed
The Southwest Youth for Knowledge Program is designed to help students:
• Improve math, science, and reading skills
• Increase ISAT test scores
• Understand connections between cultures
• Set goals for high school and college
• Develop self-awareness through student-led discussion groups and activities
We Make Learning Fun
Project SYNCERE offers students fun hands-on math and science
activities that expose students to the STEM (Science, Technology,
Engineering and Math) fields through robotics, 3-D modeling, and so
much more.
Cultural Kitchen helps students expand their multicultural awareness
and understand the value of diversity and how to experience different
cultures through research of other countries’ cultures and the
culinary arts
Junior Great Books provides a literary experience that engages
students in reading comprehension and short essay writing through the
use of fun and meaningful culturally relevant short stories, essays
and poems.
Your Thoughts is a youth based peer group curriculum that provides a
space for young people to share experiences and discuss their
opinions and hone critical thinking skills in an emotionally safe
environment.
College and Career offers a mix of individual mentoring, group
sessions, and computer-based activities. Students engage in “What’s
Next Illinois”, a web-based tool students will use to help them begin
to focus on their career interests and learn about various careers and
post-secondary opportunities.
