Hip Hop & Youth Empowerment Summit

Students from SWYC's University of Hip Hop helped organize the 2007 Hip Hop & Youth Empowerment Summit on November 29, 2007.
Held at Depaul University, the objective of the Chicago Hip Hop and Youth Empowerment Summit was to provide a space for:
· the celebration of youth and hip hop activism in Chicago
· the exposure of culture in context of the themes and issues that are being tackled in the larger community
· unity through the exhibition of talent and community building.

SAT, 12/15: Chicago Freedom School will be hosting its first ever OPEN MIC at the CFS space from 4:30-6 PM. DOOR PRIZES will be given, including a $50 gift certificate and tickets to see WICKED! Come out, meet new people, read or show some work, and learn more about the Chicago Freedom School.

Regular Open Mics are back at SWYC's University of Hip Hop! Join our youth every other friday for Freestyle Fridays, featuring spoken word poetry, songs, emcees, and open breakdance.
Freestyle Fridays are hosted by Ang13 & Sin and feature DJ Ron-Ron.

Teachers for Social Justice (TSJ) of Chicago presents the 7th annual Teaching For Justice CURRICULUM FAIR. SWYC Generation Y Youth will be presenting a resource table at this event.

The Teaching for Social Justice Curriculum Fair is like a Science or History Fair, except volunteer educators "present" and share ideas for bringing topics of social justice into the classroom.
The day's schedule also features Education for Liberation-oriented workshops, resource tables, lunch, and an open forum on "Teachers as Activists" (1-2:45PM).
